Got questions?
We’re here to answer them.
What is (process) simulation?
Simulation is the representation of an existing or planned process in a virtual, risk-free environment. It allows you to recreate and predict the behavior of production or logistics systems under selected conditions, for example: varying demand levels or different numbers of resources or employees. Simulation supports process analysis, identification of improvement areas, and/or testing potential optimization scenarios.
What is FlexSim?
FlexSim is simulation modeling software. It is not an ERP/WMS/SAP-type system, but a specialized tool. In today’s economy, such tools are increasingly essential for system analysis and decision impact forecasting. FlexSim is likely the most versatile and powerful, yet user-friendly, simulation tool available on the market.
Can small companies afford simulation?
Many InterMarium clients are small companies or even independent specialists. We design individual solutions tailored to each client, taking their financial capabilities into account.
Is FlexSim only for logistics?
No. While many logistics companies use FlexSim (e.g., Amazon, FM Logistics, Raben), it is equally popular in manufacturing (ArcelorMittal, Tesla, Flex) and other industries such as airports, business consulting, and healthcare.
Is FlexSim only for manufacturing companies?
No. Although FlexSim is widely used in manufacturing (ArcelorMittal, Tesla, Flex), many users operate in logistics (Amazon, FM Logistics, Raben) and other sectors such as airports, consulting, and healthcare.
Which departments benefit most from FlexSim?
LEAN and Continuous Improvement teams use FlexSim to analyze, improve, and optimize existing processes.
Implementation and investment departments use it for planning, verification, validation, and promotion of project assumptions before implementation begins, FlexSim enables creation of a dynamic 3D computer model of the facility.
FlexSim is also used in Solution Design teams, automation companies, and system integrators. Advanced visualization and VR make simulation a powerful marketing and sales support tool.
Can FlexSim help me create a digital twin of my factory?
Yes. FlexSim is also a tool for creating digital twins. By using FlexSim, you can easily create digital model solutions (a digital, dynamic 3D representation of the system) and digital shadow solutions (a digital model that is connected to the system in such a way that the simulation model reflects, in real time, the exact state and changes in the process system).
For a true digital twin (bidirectional communication), FlexSim can handle the simulation part. In this case it will be necessary to integrate it with other systems such as MES.
Will FlexSim represent my process realistically enough?
Yes. One of the advantages of the FlexSim tool is its high level of flexibility. This is where its name comes from—flexible simulation. A complete library of objects that can be modified allows for accurate representation of both the behavior and appearance of the resources used in the process you want to simulate.
How can I present simulation results?
You can present results in the form of:
1. If you’re using a VR device (e.g. VR goggles), you can view the simulation model from the inside, as if you were physically located within it. You can closely observe the entire process, take a virtual walk through the production hall, or even interact with the model, for example by performing specific operations on the line, starting and stopping processes, or operating a forklift.
2. Direct presentation within the model by using the Dashboard functionality. FlexSim is equipped with an extensive library of various chart types (pie charts, bar charts, line charts, Gantt charts, box plots, etc.) as well as predefined performance indicators. These enable analysis of resource utilization, productivity, buffer utilization, operator travel paths, and many other aspects, presented in a format preferred by the user. You can also create your own custom KPIs.
3. Simulation results exported to an Excel spreadsheet. For further processing of the results, you can use the MS Office suite.
4. Simulation results exported directly to a database or another environment used for data processing and visualization. You can generate .csv files and use tools provided by Python. This solution is particularly useful when working with larger volumes of data.
5. Video output – FlexSim is equipped with easy-to-use and intuitive tools that allow precise planning of specific shots and the sequence in which they will appear in the video. This makes it possible to obtain, among others, bird’s-eye views, tracking a single product through the process, or shots from the operator’s point of view.
Do you support model development?
Yes. Our maintenance package includes expert support and fast troubleshooting assistance. You also receive 16 hours of consulting support, which can be used for additional training or joint model development with an engineer. Additional support is always available beyond the maintenance package.
